well fishing has been picking up. The water temps starting out have been between 56-58 degrees. The most consistent bite for blacks has been between 35-55ft off of steep drops on both secondary points to major creeks as well as main lake ledges. There are some fish shallow but are smaller and real scattered. We have been attacking the drops with chrome and chartuese slabs as well as drop shotting finesse worms in darker colors like junebug and green pumpkin will put good numbers of 2-4lb fish in the boat. the bigger bites have come on jigs fished slow along the edges. some days they pick it up and spit it out quick. If this happens we have been trimming the skirt down and using smaller profile trailers to get them to eat the jig real good.

If it's stripers and whites you prefer to chase you can find a couple of nice schools in both castle canyon and up the devils as well. We have been catching them on slabs both white and gold colors seem to work the most consitently.

Well I wish all of ya'll coming down for the bass champs good luck and stop by the Anglers Tackle and say hi. I always enjoy meeting fellow Anglers.

Well we have a had quite a few warm days and the fish are beginning to move up and start to prepare to spawn. The water temps are beginning to climb into the mid 50’s. Numbers of smaller fish between 1lb to 4lb fish have been good for us by focusing on 15ft to 25ft near spawning flats. We have been using pointer jerkbaits in white when it was cloudy and aroura blue when the sun was out. Soft plastics have also been very productive on post-coldfront days and in deeper water. The new large shakey head that accommodated the 10 inch trick worm as well as the 8” Hags tornado have been very productive along staging points and ledges in 25ft-45ft for the larger fish over 4lbs.

Spring is definitely here, the lake level continues to be aprox. 2ft above full pool. There have been a few early spawners up the Rio between marker 21 and marker 26 and in the devils river above Satans Canyon. The water temps have risen up the rivers to the high 50’s. while the main lake continues to still be in a winter and some pre-spawn patterns as well as some early spawners in the major creeks like evans,California, and San Pedro. The swimbait bite is picking up on the days that have low light or windy conditions. Carolina-rigs and jigs have been the most productive baits for us in the main lake concentrating on ledges and points that are located close to spawning areas. Up the rivers great numbers of smaller fish are being caught in the back of the bigger creeks and coves on weightless senkos and plastic lizards. Also had very good success on the S.O.B. mini-me spinnerbait slow rolled along the 10ft to 20ft tree lines.

The Spawn is on! Well due to several cold fronts that seem to coincide with every full moon or new moon we have had has put the major wave of the spawners a little late. The lake level continues to be aprox.  2ft. above full pool. The water temps up the rivers have reached the high 60’s and the main lake is in the mid 60’s.  we are averaging 15 to 30 fish days.  Most of these fish are caught sight fishing off of the bed however most are smaller males between 2 ½ to 3lbs. We have caught a few of the  bigger females around 7lbs by concentrating on main lake points and humps in the mainlake. These fish are pre-spawn and still hanging out in deeper water between 25ft and 40ft. The most productive baits for numbers have been a t-rig 5” tornado, weightless senko, and when sight fishing a bright white brush-hog or creature bait. For the bigger females we have been able to catch them on swimbaits, jigs, and large soft plastics worked in the middle of the drains next to spawning areas.

Well the spawn is winding down, there are still fish to be caught of beds in the main lake off of main lake humps and points as well as out in the mouths of some of the bigger creeks. The most productive pattern for us has been to focus on the fish that have made it thru the post-spawn and are feeding up to prepare for the summer. We have been having great days with numbers. Most days are averaging over 20 with a few days in the 50’s. Again most of these fish are between 1lb and 4lbs. The most productive pattern for these have been concentrating on 10ft to 20ft with pointer jerkbaits, soft sided smaller swimbaits and of course the weightless senkos.  We have been catching a couple of fish between 4lbs and 8lbs when we have concentrated our efforts on the outside grass lines and above the grass bed in 25-to 35ft . drop-shots, Carolina-rigs, dd22’s have been the most productive for us in this water column. I keep my color selections on this lake very simple when it is sunny I throw any version of watermelon and when it is cloudy or I am concentrating in water over 30ft or so I throw darker colors like junebug or blk/blu flake.
