Well, it has been a while but I can't complain because it has been busy. The lake is turning on rapidily Most of the creeks on the north side as well as up the Rio and the Devils are full of fish. the males have moved to the spawning areas and started sweeping and the females are staging close by. The water temps have been between 58-62 depending on where you are. The new moon coming up will lock the first wave on the beds.My clients and I are keeping it simple and have enjoyed great success. I have been going to the back of all the creeks and deeper coves on the north side if I see males up shallow and scrapes, I spin the boat around and find the first drop to 20ft or so and you will find the females staging right there. My clients have been enjoying catching great numbers but the best part is we have had a 10lb,9lb,7lb in the last few days. 10-12" worms in shades of watermelon, 8-10" Riverslung senkos and swimbaits and luckycraft sus. jerkbaits. If you would like a more in depth report or to know exactly what we are throwing stop by the Anglers Lodge Tackle store and holler at me fresh off the water at 4:00 on most days. I still have a few open days in April but they are filling up quickly. So if you ready to have fun, catch some fish and most of all learn some new things you can use on your home lake feel free to give me a call, and lets go catch them. Don't miss out on this great time of year on the big blue. where your one Cast Away from the fish of a lifetime. As always if I can answer any questions or assist you in making the most out of your trip here wether you book with me or not feel free to give me a call. Good luck we look forward to seeing all you on the big blue!

There is Love in the Air down here and the full moon of course has moved the big girls around. There are fish starting to lock on and as I thought it's going to be pretty much a shoot out as most of the lake will go off for the first wave at the same time I am finding bedding fish from San Pedro to Marker 28. The next few weeks are going to be great, As long as those Amistad Spring winds stay in check, I used to hear the saying in like a lion out like a lamb, I hope thats true but I wouldn't hold my breath on it. I have found 60 to 65 degree water in most places and have been targeting fish in the 15 to 25ft it seems over the last few days they have been more coopertive. Big baits for this time of the year for me. swimbaits and big plastics fished very slow. some days you might try shaking and soaking it, seems to help on most days. Colors are still simple any shades of green when it is sunny as well as purples or darker colors when we have overcast skies. If you have novice fisherman or youngsters on the boat. move from 15 and up and have them throw a Grandebass Rattlesnake or a whacky rigged Riverslung senko's on weedless falcon hooks and they will have a blast catching alot of 2 to 5lb bass. The pictures, are a few my clients were able to catch as well as a couple of 5's and a bunch of bucks. I also included one I found a couple of days before. The picture of the couple was taken at the dock so that they could learn how to properly fizz a fish and insure her survival. both fish were doing great when they swam off thanks to proper care from Catch and Release in the live well, to bleeding them if needed.
I hope you enjoy the pics, and I still have a few days left in April so If your ready to come down and see what Amistad has to offer give me a call or stop by the website http://www.theamistadman.com and book a trip with me. You will have a great time learning, and catching some fish.

Wow, after a busy run and some computer problems. I am back to posting some reports. I will start posting weekly now that things have slowed down. The fishing here has been hot. The falling lake levels have really condensed the fish if you find one there are a lot more with it. The lake is aprox. 18ft low
and the grass is starting to come up really well in some areas and not in others. We have been averaging between 30 to 60+ fish days and most between 2-6lbs. Most of those fish are being caught on a 5" wacky-rig Yum Dinger and on windy days T-rig and C-rig Dingers. Superspooks and chuggers in the babybass
pattern have produced some great topwater action on cloudy days. The swimbait bite has been good on cloudy or windy days which we have had plenty of. We have been concentrating our efforts on main river ledges and creek bends that have at least 25ft in the channel. Colors have been kept simple to greens when the sun is out and smoke or junebug when the clouds are present. Here are a few pics from some recent trips ignore the date on the pic as they are wrong I do not know how to set the date on the camera! I understand fish not photography lol.

Wow, The big blue is still on. Clients have enjoyed great numbers averaging between 25 to 60 fish a day, and with the recent rain and abundant cloud cover we even managed a couple days close to a 100 of course those who have fished here no that most of those fish were between 1 1/2 to about 5lbs.I will be honest Big fish have been kinda an on again off again since the rain and cloud cover moved out. we found a couple of 7's and an 8lb but no consistency. Patterns we have been running are Frogs and spooks in the morning around grass and brush from 8' to 16' near ledges. On bright mornings we have been catching them on super flukes and 7" senkos. For better qaulity fish once the sun gets high we have been running two patterns with great sucess, swimming 6" soft side swimbaits on V&M weighted hooks and of course my favorite punching grass. The grass bite has been getting better by the day. I have been alternating between a florida rig double wide beaver and a Hydrilla Bomber grass jig. Ther are quite a few nice isolated grass beds in zorro and tule, as well as Castle canyon and San pedro.

Well what another great week on the big blue and Dolly left us a present as we have enjoyed a rise in the water level of a little over a 1'6". This has led to some exciting mornings where some bigger fish have moved shallow. We have been enjoying good numbers on Ribbits in baby bass colors as well as watermelon/orange. The big bites we have had have been on a baby bass super spook and a wake bait in blugill patterns. The grass bite has been pretty hot in the heat of the day. I have been using 1ounce ezee jigs in rio perch and a reverse Texas rig with a double wide beaver. If your just looking for numbers you can find schoolies in most of the major creeks and can be caught on pointer 78sp in aurora pro-blue and ghost minnow. Here are a few pics from some clients who were new to bass fishing but seemed to be hooked for life!

Well the fishing has continued to be as hot as the weather. The lake has come up another foot or so, and that seems to have moved alot of the fish to the inside grass line where it meets the pond weed. Clients have enjoyed some of the best frog fishing in years as well as weightless senkos. AS the water levels off, I will follow them back to the outside grass line on channel bends, ledges, and points. you can still catch some nice fish in the heat of the day punching the grass with rtr rigs and Hydrilla Bombers, while the scrapes seem to be smaller this year the size is definitly still there. you can also work the edges with dd 22's and soft sided swimbaits. As some of you know on Amistad there are always some fish deep and we have been able to capitalize on them with a drop-shot and small plastics. As always wether you want to book a trip or just get a few questions answered about patterns, areas, lodging and etc...Feel free to call me on my cell (830)719-9006. I am always willing to help anybody make the most of their trip to the big blue.
Here are a few pics from some happy clients.
I just want to say that this was Mrs. Cottrell's first attempt at fishing soft plastics and I have never seen anybody pick up the feel of the bite so quickly. After catching several 2-4lb fish she showed just how well she had listned and caught this Amistad beauty on her own.

Well it is a little late but it has been hectic down here. The Cast couples have rolled in and lake is fishing tough. Well we are finally above full pool and I think the water is starting to slow down. Well the word for the report is SCATTERED. The fish have scattered into all the new cover and seem to be roaming as well. we go into an area one day and do well and the next day nothing. I have had to find new fish every day. I can tell you we have caught them as deep as 40ft and as shallow as a foot. Caught both big and small in deep and shallow. Believe me I am not trying to be vague due to the tournament but i have always been honest with my reports. I have not been able to pattern fish for a week but have managed to catch some fish everyday. even a few nice ones but I have been throwing the tackle box to get them. Senko's have been a mainstay up in the flooded brush along with ribbits. T-rig soft plastics both flipping the shallows as well as dragging in 18 to 38ft. with the high sky's and NO WIND (who would have thought)I have not had a swimbait bite. it is almost scary fishing this lake everyday like glass and above pool it is kinda freaking me out. but I love the challenge I think me and the lake are about even. Well it hasn't been much of a report.I can tell you, if you fish your strengh's and try to narrow the amount of new water that is available. focus on areas that would cause the fish to move up or down rather than in or out. you will catch fish and occasionally have a shot at a big one. I wish all the C.A.S.T Couples good luck. As always if you need any help or just have a question please feel free to give me a call I am always willing to help. I still have a few openings twords the end of October so if you need to satisfy your Bass habit with a quick fix, or just want to see Amistad at full pool (which doesn't happen often) give me a call and let's go catch them. Here are a few pics from some clients who took advantage of their time off . They all agree it was time well spent!
